I enjoyed reading this whole collection as the stories connect to each other/some take place in the same timeline as others, which I wasn’t expecting. It’s a thoughtful collection, reflecting on what it is to be human, the limits and direction of humanity, critiques of overconsumption and capitalism, but also just imagining our world and planet at the end of its time. What extent will humanity go to save itself? My favorite story was Mountain. Loved the visuals it produced for me. Cixin Liu had a way of creating magic that’s wholly based on science, it all could be real even when it seems fantastical. Also liked Devourer a lot and it’s conversation about morals. Could have done without With Her Eyes but then I liked it coupled with Cannonball. Worth a read even if you’re not into sci fi.

honestly - just way too depressing. many of the stories were interesting, especially how they connect, but it took me so long to read it because I was dreading what awful cataclysmic fate would befell humanity in the next 10 pages. Liu Cixin certainly is a master at sparse world building and capturing a certain desolate apathy, but I have too much existential dread and clinical depression to enjoy this book.

I had previously read 'Of Ants and Dinosaurs', 'Mountain' and 'The Wandering Earth'. At the time, my excitement was immeasurable and hardly contained that I dived straight into his [b:The Three-Body Problem|20518872|The Three-Body Problem (Remembrance of Earth’s Past #1)|Liu Cixin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1415428227l/20518872._SY75_.jpg|25696480] (Remembrance of Earth's Past Trilogy) and read them all back to back. And I am not disappointed. Here's hoping to get around to more of his published works sooner than later.

Being a collection of short stories one is different from the other, each possessing specific elements. As an underlying theme, I would refer to the exploration of the unknown and the consequences of further human and technological development. The presence of alien life and human interaction with it is also a recurring thing in the stories.
One reflection that I take from this book is that sometimes our biggest discoveries are when we search within, like the many references of digging Earth to expand human possibilities. Stay curious and go further is another lesson that I take from reading The Wandering Earth.
As I’m not an exact science girl, being for the first time expose to some ideas and concepts was fascinating. I enjoyed the speculations about the future of humanity. I didn't like that Nearly all the stories followed the same scheme: there’s a little introduction centering on the main character then something big happens and another being with “superior” knowledge explain what’s going on. I would sometimes get bored.
This is the perfect book for science fiction enjoyers or for people like me that want to explore a different genre as you can take your time reading one storie at a time.
P.S: Prior to reading the book I wasn’t aware of the controversies surrounding Cixin Liu. Now that I know I can see a reflection of his political views in some of the stories.
