You will spend the entire book feeling for one character and despising the other, all for your feelings to be completely flipped in the end.

This was a quick listen on audible. The story was okay… but it was fine with me because it was free!
Nice twist
This would have been a 4 star or more if it wasn't for one detail about the book that bothered me (can't say what it will give it away) but the book was very enjoyable and there were a few surprising twist that I throughly loved.

It’s labeled as a thriller, but to me, it’s not. At all. I was talking to a friend about it and she asked whether I felt that way because of the number of thrillers I read, so maybe that’s the issue. The premise felt exciting, though, as did the page length (less than 250 pages!).
The premise - a woman who has been missing and declared dead for a decade shows up at her husband’s door, only for his new wife to answer. This concept reminded me some of One True Loves at a high level, except OTL was more romance than “thriller” and I LOVED OTL. So that might’ve been another factor in my disappointment.
The first 100 pages is essentially Lydia returning to the town she was kidnapped from and demanding her husband’s (Luca) wife (Merritt) to tell Luca that Lydia wants to see him. Lydia doesn’t go to the police or call a news station or anything after a decade away. Instead, she moves in with some random lady in town and patiently waits on Luca's return from a business trip while trying to avoid running into Merritt at every turn.
The book alternates perspectives between Lydia and Merritt, with Merritt’s perspective focused on keeping the peace and befriending Lydia in an effort to prove that Luca has moved forward with life and his new family.
I just. Idk guys. This wasn’t for me. There were a few interesting moments, but nothing suspenseful or unexpected happen for me. I do appreciate a quick read, though.
One way this could've been stronger is if it did flashbacks throughout the book of Lydia's time in captivity and built suspense that way so we can have a better understanding of her experience and her new reality.

Wow. My jaw actually dropped open around 61%
Definitely didn’t see that first twist coming. Unfortunately the second twist and ending felt a little too far and the story would have been better without the second zinger imho, but it was still a page-turner. Totally binged this one. Recommend for fans of domestic psychological thrillers.
Included with kindle unlimited
SUMMARY: newlywed woman goes for a hike and is taken. She’s held captive for 9 years, escapes, and (now) shows up at her husbands house to find his new wife, pregnant with their second child.
The new wife is nervous she’s here and thinks perhaps if they give her money to start over she will go away. The first wife IS up to something, and she has her reasons for not first going to the police.
That’s all I can say without spoiling.

I wanted this book to be so much more than it was but unfortunately I found all the characters unlikeable. The plot also had too many holes to make it plausible.
