A bit of a weird one but one characteristic of Nicci French books that I always love is the vivid and detailed descriptions of London.
I won this book from Goodreads. “Alice Loudon has it all: a devoted boyfriend, a marvelous circle of friends, a challenging job as a research scientist. Then one morning, on her way to work, she exchanges a lingering look with a devastatingly attractive man. Adam Tallis is the essence of every female fantasy--a daring mountain climber who has been hailed as a hero. As a lover, he is more passionate than Alice's wildest imaginings. Soon there isn't anything or anyone she wouldn't give up to stay by his side. Soon all she has is Adam, and life with this stranger will take her to new heights of madness...and fear.” I very much enjoyed this book. It’s a thriller and it’s entertaining, well-written, and thought provoking. A girl leaves the life she knows to move in with a man she only just met and you know that can’t go well! There are hints that Adam is a little crazy right from the start and when you find out the truth you can’t help but shudder at the events that occur. I definitely recommend this one!
From the book- this one scene summarises everything up so perfectly:
"'How did you guys meet?' he asked.
'We saw each other on the street.'
'And that was that?'
'Yes.'
'You just saw each other and leaped into bed?'
'Yes."
'It's just lust, Alice. You can't throw away your whole life for lust.'"
There's the whole story and my feelings towards everything. The main character was so -_- hard to believe some bimbo character even lasted through a job.
I read this for the psychological thriller aspect- there was no big one really. It kind of sucked. OBVIOUS SPOILER! The guy is not who he says he is.
Alice is just some psycho bimbo bitch who doesn't know how to life.
I gave it three stars because I mean... it kept me till the end so that's something. I guess the obsession was interesting and I wanted to see how that worked out with such a dim-witted character.
That is all.

I truly enjoyed this book. My heart was beating fast quite a few times from wanting to know what would happen and if she would get caught.

Not my favorite book by the duo Nicci French, considering the story has some gaps and plot points that failed to convince me, starting with the fact that a woman with a stable life, a scientist could ditch her life, her everything to be with a man she met on the street. I know it could happen but I’m still not convinced. There were other tiny holes throughout, but I enjoyed reading a tense story written by Nicci French.
This is the book that started my love for Nicci French. A good book about how the grass is never greener on the other side. Alice cheats on her boyfriend and then eventually leaves her boyfriend for this guy she met on the street. The relationship takes a violent turn and her story proceeds through it. I think it's a shocking read about something that could happen to anyone and I couldn't put it down.In compliance with FTC guidelines,I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
Alice Louden leaves her steady live-in boyfriend for a sudden but passionate affair with mountain climber Adam Tallis. It moves quite quickly to the point they are marrying. But in her marriage to Adam she finds he has a dark secretive side. So she starts probing into his past behind is back. The book moves fast and is a quick read. I probably gave this book a better rating because my like of the movie. Because really I have been disappointed by French's books. Things seem to be missing from them -- lack of character development? falling plot lines? I am just not sure I can pin-point it. I did like this book the best though out of the ones I have read of French's books.
