I loved this Irish gothic romance! The MMC is super swoonworthy and this book gives excellent dark academia vibes. My only complaint was that the ending felt really rushed and I would’ve loved more to the story.

This was a very weak three stars for me. And I am sad it was but there was just some glaring issues with this book.
The first two chapters really hooked me in, espesially that opening line. But despite the strong start, there was pacing issues, grammar problems and lack of progress throughout the book.
This book is extremely slow paced and for over 60% of the story it really felt like nothing was happening. And then you get to the back end of the book and suddenly everything is happening far to rapidly. They went from making no progress in 7+ years to having answers so quickly and the way they came to the conclusions just felt poor from two scentific people. The ending of the book was so abrupt I was kind of left wondering if I wasn't being messed with and when I turned the page there'd actually be more.
The characters themselves were okay? Sonder didn't quite have the personality I was expecting from his first chapter, which was someone who was just a little bit psychotic. In actuality he is just a bit withdrawn and that's about it.
Atta was fine as a FMC. I just never fully connected with her and wished we knew more about her backstory or what made her tick. Because it never felt like it was fully delved into. We got snippets but not enough to fully bring her to life.
I did like the premise behind the story and I thought the idea of fae possessions was super interesting. But there was just some things I couldn't grasp, like why it seemed to be confined to Dublin and hadn't spread out through Ireland or anywhere else in such a long time period.
This felt like a book that had good ideas and decent writing and a decently well done dark academic vibe, but it needed more work to fully flesh it out.

I really enjoyed the premise and story of this book. However I felt it was deeply underdeveloped both with the characters and parts of the plot. I was waiting for the plot to go deeper or the parts about the fairies world/magic to go a bit deeper as I felt I didn't understand some of it when it came to the fae world. Loved the characters but again a little underdeveloped. The book was so atmospheric though and I loved all the imagery. This book could have been longer I was wanting/craving more of it to be expanded on! Didn't overly love the jumps in timeline either. The writing was good good overall and very easy reading.
a great concept with so much potential but the execution was lacking. I found myself reading just to finish it and not because i was actually enjoying it.

This is what I want from all dark academia books.
We have a student and a professor who are both incredibly smart coming together to find a cure for the plague that has been killing people in Ireland for years. However, it becomes so much more than they both expected and while they are studying this together, they are also falling in love. It was just great.
Dark academia books can be pretentious which impacts the writing, but this was just written beautifully. It didn't try to be too much or too smart, it was just interesting and exciting.
Definitely recommend this when you need those gothic and spooky vibes, perfect for fall when it's raining and you have a hot cup of tea.
