3.5 ⭐️ thought this was a good fantasy book but was a little difficult to keep up with while listening to on audio
I loved every second of this book and I can’t wait to read the others!

2⭐️’s.. I am so underwhelmed with this story. In fact, I’m honestly surprised it’s been rated this high. All this book talks about is politics.. that’s literally it!! And maybe I’d care a little if I had any sort of attachment to the characters but the lack of character development and the fact they are sucky people to begin with makes this whole book kind of boring. I guess there’s a love story but again, with no good banter at all do I even care?? Not really.

Defy the night was fast-paced with a cast of characters I loved.
I was immediately sucked into the book, so much so that it got me out of a 2 month reading slump!
I loved how the book equally focused on the plot of revolution, unease and fighting back as well as the characters personal problems and developments.
I was stuck on which side to stand on the whole book (that of the royals or the rebels) seeing as we got perspectives from both sides, which was one of my favourite parts of the book.
I liked that there was romance but it wasn’t the main plot.
I thought the world building was well done so that it wasn’t easy to understand and follow and no info dumping.
Over all I hope in the next two books we get to see more of some of the other characters such as Lochlan.
I can’t wait to finish the series!
