This book was amazing beginning to end. I was hooked in the first chapter. This is a standalone series that is to be written by numerous authors.

Our MC is a badass heroine that doesn't take much crap from anyone. Our male character is romantically stunted at times. The two off them together is hot!

This does end up as a RH and I was rooting for it the whole time. The chemistry between the characters is beautifully done and realistic.

This book was exactly what I was looking for and I can't wait to continue with the other books.

This is my first read of the Mafia Wars series, definitely rushing to read the rest as I’ve fallen in love with the shared world!

Given to the enemy by way of arranged marriage in order to uphold an agreed peace treaty between the most powerful mafia families. Rosa (daughter to the Mexican Cartel boss) is betrothed to Tiernan (son to the head of the Irish Mafia). Rosa is ever the optimist and hopeful it can be turned into something more than a business transaction but Tiernan cannot see past his age old hate. Due to his narrow minded thinking, he enlists the help of family members, Shay and Colin, to fulfil certain martial obligations.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, totally unprepared for the emotional onslaught. It was like riding the emotional rollercoaster - anger, sadness, happiness, love... all the feels! The first chapter had me hooked; Ivy’s writing style kept me captivated throughout. The story featured a lot of heartache but also a ton of passion, love and understanding; which is a key element in this journey.

The characters were very well written and you see some amazing development throughout the book. The personalities were written in such depth, it felt like you connected with them during the story.

Rosa is a very strong character and easily likeable; I rooted for her all the way through the book. I was in awe of her passionate, very stubborn personality and how much love she had to give. My feelings towards Tiernan were up and down like a yoyo! I had moments where I loathed him but absolutely loved his filthy mouth

What do I think about this book…

When I started the “Mafia Wars” series I actually started with Ruining Dahlia first because obviously they’re all standalone‘s. I decided I wanted to read all the other books in order because I truly did love Ruining Dahlia so much. If I had started this series from the beginning with this book I don’t know if I would’ve continued it. I do love a good reverse harem but I did not like the storyline of this book. It felt like a lot of this book was very forced relationship for me and not in a good way. I also did not like the over excessive use of the word “ARGH”. Literally this word appear just like this in so many spots and I was not a fan.

Will I continue to read the rest of the books yes. Was it because I thought the first one was great…absolutely not. Did I also cry the end of the book though… Yes.

mild spice with relationship building wanting

For a mafia romance there wasn’t too much violence and danger in these pages besides the ones alluded to (flashbacks meant to give insight into a character.) It has lots of potential but the character arcs shift abruptly and in no organic fashion, it’s less hot and cold and more just no time spent on building relationships. The “villain” of the story gets about 10 pages of screen time and isn’t much of a threat. I really wanted to like this one as it seems to be the most Hades and Persephone of them all, but the allusions to that myth were more tell than show. I read forget me not bombshell first before realizing it was a collection of related standalone books and haven’t been able to match the world or character building of that one in this book.

Great start to the series!! Rosa is the most feminine and sweet of all the princesses I’ve read! Narrators did a great job too!
