As someone who isn’t heavily invested in history i think it was a great intro. This book covers from 1492-2003 and has SO MUCH information. I feel like i need to study the book rather than just listen once through. Definitely will be purchasing to teach my son proper history vs textbook history.
There are controversies surrounding the book because of the lack of historical references to the latino community, west coast, as well as others in the LGBTQIA+ but he added that he is a heterosexual from the east coast which could have added to what i believe is his unintentional biased.
I personally think it is still an important book to read and have in your library because of all the information it has. No one person can possibly cover everything in history, do it correctly, respectfully & with understanding to the community which is why i don’t think it’s that big of a deal.
He added book recommendations at the end from latino authors to cover more historical points within our community. He also gives recommendations for the LGBTQIA+ community and admits that he had a bias which i can appreciate.

Dense, but interesting and enlightening take on the opposite side of history and bias that I was taught growing up. Definitely worth a read and having on the bookshelf, but give yourself plenty of time and mental breaks to read it all

A People’s History of The United States paints a different portrait of America with which I am familiar. From the author’s perspective, our nation’s real untold history is a narrative of disappointment and ethical compromise despite its tremendous potential as a land of innovation and cultural progress.
I learned more from this than I did my entire 4 years of high school about many cultural and central issues of the USA.
