Blockade Billy

Stephen King

3.35 AVERAGE

I've revised by rating down from four stars to three. I enjoyed this, I thought the concept was great. King and baseball, two things I love.
But in hindsight, I'm struck by how flat it fell at the end. King set it up where it could have had such a good twist and then it just...didn't.

“Baseball is a good thing. Always was, always will be.”
Blockade Billy is definitely a novella for baseball fans. Although, I'm kind of ambivalent about baseball and I still enjoyed it quite a lot. There's a bonus short story titled Morality that is suitably creepy and thought-provoking.

A fun and quick summer read (in late Spring). I'll avoid spoilers and just say that I think it tells more than it should -- I would have liked more of the explanation to just hang out there, and generally up the creep factor.

I don't read a lot of short stories, but it was a nice change of pace.

Enjoyable short read. The language is slangy enough that you can't let your focus wander, or you'll lose the thread of the story.

This was a quick disappointment!
I belive this is the worse King book I own.
adventurous dark tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

blockade billy is one of my favourite short stories SK has ever put out into the world, and i loved morality just as much 💕

Short but enjoyable read

Since baseball season is over and I am still riding the rush of the Cardnials winning the World series in one of the best seven game series I have ever seen, I decided I would give this a try. I was worried with Mr. King being such a Red Sox fan that I would hate this book. Well thankfully it is about a team that doesn’t exist.

This was a fun read and short for a King book. It is written from the point of view of an old coach telling the story about Blockade Billy to Mr. King. It was fun to read and very interesting. Not only did it take the reader back to the early days of baseball but it had a good twist ending. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun baseball read.
