Because this is Stephen King they try to make it sound as if there's something supernatural about it, that the dark secret is a deal with the devil. But it's far plainer than that: Blockade Billy's secret is prosaic, and the joy is in the telling of the tale. The narrator has a fine voice, even if it is presented as a monologue delivered to Stephen King himself.
Because Blockade Billy is so short, my edition was paired with the short story Morality, which unfortunately conflated BDSM with some sort of moral failing - but still, a good examination of corruption. Neither of these stories is top shelf King by any measure, but they're enjoyable enough nonetheless.

It was OK, and good baseball writing, but the climax was disappointing after all the build up.
Not your typical King horror fest. A good, solid read, but nothing really creepy or supernatural. Just a quick fun read for fans of baseball with a mild thriller edge.
One of King's rare excursions into the non-supernatural... interesting combination of 2 of King's big interests, Baseball and The Evil That Men Do.

5 stars to Blockade Billy. The story is good, and I love baseball. It has a few turns here and there that do the trick.
4 stars to Morality. Even though I really liked the theme and depth, I think it felt a little short at the end.

Not what I saw coming at all. What was most unsettling about this story was in the conclusion. The rising action left a bit to be desired for me, but I’m also not a baseball fan.
