A baseball story, probably meant for baseball fans. I did not understand more than half of it, but still got a slight basic premise of what was happening. Although by the end of it, I felt I had wasted my time on this. But, since it was an SK story, I had to read it at least once! Having not understood much of it, due to my lack of knowledge in baseball, I do not think my rating would be justified correctly. But yet if I have to, in my present condition I will give it 2-stars.
The story is told through a framing device, by a man who is in an old-age retirement home, a former baseball coach, to Stephen King.
One simple quote that I really enjoyed reading was:

ATY 2018 #30 - A short book
Honestly I thought the book was a bit shit. Maybe I would have liked it better if I actually liked/knew anything about baseball? It was an incredibly short book, 112 but the book itself is much smaller than your standard paperback so it can't have been any more than 60-65 actual pages. King sets this up to be this great scandal, so huge that it had to be written out of the Titans' history, but the ending is so underwhelming compared to what I imagined it would be - massive letdown. I don't even know if it's worth 2 stars but I feel like it would be unfair to give it 1 considering:
A) I finished the book
B) I really wanted to know what had happened and was invested enough to want to finish it
I'd say a 1.5, veering to a 1.75, but honestly, tomorrow I might just decide on a 1. Really wasn't my kind of book and while I liked the premise of this baseball player having a shady secretive past that has been shoved under the carpet, I didn't like the execution of it. Despite that, I still really want to give King another go, probably one of his more famous ones this time because I only picked this up as it was the only King novel in the library. But I'm starting to get the impression that I'm just not a huge fan of his works. I haven't given any of them more than 3.5 but I still feel like he has a lot to offer that I'd be mad not to check out? Who knows, maybe I should dive into the deep end and go for something like 'It'.

wonderful writing, per King usual, but probably more appealing to avid baseball fans and not just any King fan

“I will do this because I know I can pray for forgiveness once it’s done.”
It’s been a while since I last read a Stephen King book. It was at christmas when I finished The Dark Tower series and so I thought i’d give this quick read a go. Blockade Billy and Mortality are featured in this little book. The first is a story about a baseball star and a particular event which brings into question his behaviour. Mortality is a test of ones moral thoughts and the lengths one goes to survive, that being what survival means to them.
Blockade Billy started off heavy on the topic of baseball which you would expect as King is a huge fan. The mysterious plot which is centred around one particular character is the kind I enjoy reading. The extensive thoughts on the who, what and why behind the noticeably changing behaviour of this person. Where the story comes to its conclusion I felt for me it wasn’t as surprising as I thought it would be. I don’t know if its because of the themes within the story but I didn’t enjoy it as much.
The subject matter of Mortality was quite interesting, the disturbing reality of what is happening in this story had my attention however again towards the end I didn’t enjoy it so much.
I haven’t read a lot of King’s books, I haven’t come across that many that didn’t agree with me but sadly this was one of them. The good thing for me was that it was a quick read and not a mammoth one.

As a Brit I know nothing about baseball so I found the story a bit boring. It was better second time around and the bonus story Morality I did enjoy.
