I got a free copy of this so I figured I'd read it, even though I tend to find baseball fiction booooring. This was that, but also uninteresting otherwise. The supposed horror elements just were so flatly presented that I wonder if King wrote this in his sleep. I'd say don't bother, unless you like baseball.
Not bad. But the second story in the book entitled Mortality was strange.......

I'm a King fan and love baseball! I was excited to read this short story. It was good. A bit hard to get used to the single person narration that doesn't pause for chapter breaks. But I did enjoy it, including the descriptions of the games.
ATY 2018 #30 - A short book
Honestly I thought the book was a bit shit. Maybe I would have liked it better if I actually liked/knew anything about baseball? It was an incredibly short book, 112 but the book itself is much smaller than your standard paperback so it can't have been any more than 60-65 actual pages. King sets this up to be this great scandal, so huge that it had to be written out of the Titans' history, but the ending is so underwhelming compared to what I imagined it would be - massive letdown. I don't even know if it's worth 2 stars but I feel like it would be unfair to give it 1 considering:
A) I finished the book
B) I really wanted to know what had happened and was invested enough to want to finish it
I'd say a 1.5, veering to a 1.75, but honestly, tomorrow I might just decide on a 1. Really wasn't my kind of book and while I liked the premise of this baseball player having a shady secretive past that has been shoved under the carpet, I didn't like the execution of it. Despite that, I still really want to give King another go, probably one of his more famous ones this time because I only picked this up as it was the only King novel in the library. But I'm starting to get the impression that I'm just not a huge fan of his works. I haven't given any of them more than 3.5 but I still feel like he has a lot to offer that I'd be mad not to check out? Who knows, maybe I should dive into the deep end and go for something like 'It'.

I would like to give a warm around of applause to the one and only Stephen King and Stewart O'Nan
