Jet and Ayden are the two main characters in my least favorite book of the series. Both of them are tough characters to get to know. Jet is the front man of a successful metal band that could be bigger, but he shies away from fame. Mostly he runs his own studio where he writes and produces music for other bands. I liked the work side of Jet a lot, he’s probably the most responsible of all the guys professionally, but I still never clicked with him. Ayden is Shaw’s roommate and she was really a tough cookie for me to crack. She acts like the perfect southern belle, but she’s hiding a lot of secrets and that made it really difficult for me to get to know her and connect with her, something I need from characters to really get behind a book.
What did I like the most about Jet? Probably Jet as a musician. Whether he was working or singing to Ayden in private I loved seeing that side of him. Also, the moments where Jet and Ayden were alone and just got to be were pretty good. What did I dislike the most about Jet? The whole menacing thing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there are two really menacing, over the top parts of the story, involving someone from Jet’s past and someone from Ayden’s past. It was just too much for me and I found myself not really caring/rolling my eyes.
This is part of a larger review I wrote on the first four books in the Marked Men series. The review can be found on my blog.

This is a rounded up 3.5 stars. I liked most of it, but I get frustrated by chick characters who repeatedly make poor choices and don't appreciate their friends' unwavering loyalty. Beyond waiting for the guy/hero to step up, so many scenarios can be avoided if Ayden was just honest with her friends from the start. Real friends will never judge you. It is a formula in a lot of these types of books though, so I accept it while also wishing they weren't so stupid.
I knew there was more to Ayden than meets the eye when we were introduced to her as Shaw's best friend in, RULE. She was a fabulous "broken" heroine and it was a great turn to see it be the guy having to suck it up and pick his love interest up, rather than the other way around.
Ayden and Jet had an instant attraction when they met. Ayden, the good ole Southern girl who loved her country music, couldn't help but be drawn to Jet as he strutted and screamed his metal music across the stage. But when Ayden decided to unleash the bad girl she was trying to keep under control and seduce Jet, she was devastated at his decision to turn her down. For a year after that fateful encounter, the two of them had an uncomfortable truce as friends and roommates. Their friends kept trying to push them together, but Ayden and Jet were convinced they shouldn't be together and did everything in their power to stay as they were. But just as fate forced them apart, it brought them together when they needed it.
Ayden was hiding from her past. Raised in a small town in Kentucky by a mother who had a revolving door of men coming in and out of their trailer, Ayden lived up to the trailer trash label that had been placed on their family. Most of what she did was to keep her brother out of more trouble than what he was already in. So when a high school chemistry teacher saw potential in Ayden, he helped her fill out applications and get her to Denver to college. Ayden did everything she could to make sure that she lived her new life to deserve the second chance that she got. She studied hard. She worked and saved. And she only dated nice guys that had their future mapped out. Jet was none of the things she claimed she wanted, but he called to her bad girl side. When she finally gave in to their attraction, it was under the understanding that it was just sex because she knew Jet could destroy her and the life she was trying to carve out. But Ayden discovered that while you can hide from your past temporarily, it always managed to come back and bite you in the ass. When it did, she was willing to give up everything under the guise of protecting what she loved, knowing it was going to kill her and seriously piss off her friends. But Ayden discovered that no matter how bad her past was, Jet was going to be there for her and support her when she needed it. It was the slap of reality she needed to realize that not everyone was like her brother or mother and could be counted on.
Jet had his own set of family issues. A father that blamed him and his mother for ruining is his and a mother that was unwilling to let go of a man who made her life miserable, had Jet shying away from anything that looked like a relationship. He ever set aside fame and fortune with his band because of his fear that something would happen to his mother while he was gone. But with Ayden, Jet began to see that all the bottled up emotions that made him such a great songwriter and performer because a little easier to deal with. Unfortunately, he could admit this to himself but could never manage to verbalize it just the right way to Ayden. He let years worth of hurt and anger make him walk away from her, rather than to fight for what he wanted most.
I really liked Jet and Ayden together. It was great to see what a cohesive group everyone had become in the year after the end of RULE. They were all a family and a family that stucked together and told each other when they needed a swift kick. Jet and Ayden needed quite a few swift kicks to get them to their HEA. But it was a HEA that was worth it, especially when it was Jet coming to Ayden to prove that he was always be there for her.
The Marked Men series continues to roll on with another great entry. Given the snippets in the epilogue, Rome and Cora's book (which is next) is leaving me with some pretty high expectations.

Which doesn’t exactly make me want to jump up and go read it, you know what I mean? We were joking one night, laughing at how I actually would probably love Jet and so I bought it and I stayed up til 6 am reading the book because I was hooked so fast.
This is why I try so hard not to ever give up on an author. They may just pull something out that just blows your mind. Hence Jet.
I LOVE this book. I love the characters so much. I love how absolutely different they are from each other. You have country girl, Ayden, who is going to school, working, doing everything she can to be a good girl, to keep herself from making the same mistakes from the past. Then you have Jet, sexy rock star (he’s supposed to be a metal guy but my obsession with emo boys made me picture him that way the whole damn time. Whatever, its my imagination…), who looks like this bad boy, but he’s got this beautiful heart and he works hard for every single thing he does, even if it might not be that traditional way of doing things and that’s what I love about them.
Jet is obvious so attracted to Ayden and he knows that he just needs to convince her that they’re exactly what each other needs but you get so frustrated with Ayden. She’s so set on her path to find someone stable and successful and someone who fits her perfect, good girl image on paper but she fails to see that what she’s looking for is exactly Jet. Yeah, he’s a little bad boy with his tattoos and his piercings and his metal band and all that but he’s really genuinely successful and ambitious and he wants to be a stable person and I just love it. He’s exactly what she needs and is looking for but he doesn’t look like it so she struggles to get there. And I think she struggles because she wants to be in control and Jet makes her lose control.
Agh all the feels come out just from me thinking about reading this book. I just love it so much.
And yes, it still has broken people and the dramatics. Ayden has a seriously messed up past and her brother, Asa, has caused a ton of problems for her, problems that she just wants to escape big time. Jet has a hard time letting go of his mom, who stays with his abusive dad, even though she’s made her choice to stay with him. But it didn’t bother me in this book and I wonder if it is because I genuinely love these characters. I love how different they are from each other and I love how much they love each other and the journey that takes place in them finding their way to each other. It makes my heart hurt in both good and bad ways.
Plus Jet has the tattoos and the piercings as well, and like I said, I think of him as this sexy emo rock star (sorry Jay, I just had to) and it just makes me want to fan myself. Constantly.
PLUS, I swear these are the most normal names of the series. I like nice, normal, classic names so Rule, Shaw, Royal, Rowdy, Saint, Salem…all these names of characters that I am meeting in this series…they drive me insane. I admit I get very distracted by names that are different. Its hard to concentrate on the story. I know that’s weird, its just a little pet peeve of mine so maybe that’s why I had a hard time with the first book. Jet and Ayden are very normal names to me. Ayden is obviously very normal (in fact, I don’t like it as a boys’ name because its so popular but I love it as a girls name) and my cousin’s name is Jett, so Jet felt okay too. I was able to concentrate on their story and I just loved their story so so so much.
I can’t wait to meet Jay next weekend and get Jet signed because that’s how much I just love love that book.

I devoured this book. It was more well-written than the first book in the series, and I found the plot to be extremely riveting. The smut was also juicier.
There is not enough relationship development in this book. I couldn't fully fall in love with this couple, but they had their cute moments. I probably wouldn't read this again, but it deserves to be read once.
Didn't love it as much as Rule, but still pretty entertaining. It's hard to imagine a world where guys like Jet exist
emotional
hopeful
tense
fast-paced
Oh, man. Bless. BLESS. BLESS. BLESS. BLESS. BLESSSSSS!!!!!!! I truly enjoyed this book, ugh, damn.
Can't wait to read Rome!
