I started at the beginning of the Rom Com series after reading and loving The Italian Job. I struggled to find these characters as interesting. Ryan was a little too self-hating throughout. Then when Sam realizes she fed into his insecurities her reaction comes up short for me. Lukas was the main bright spot of this book, and I wish we’d been given more of him and Ryan bonding once Lukas tells Sam that Ryan deserves more from her.

Girl boss. Grump with a soft spot.

I can’t help but feel sorry for Ryan throughout the book. Obviously he got the short end of the stick: roughy childhood that still giants him into adulthood, but Sam doesn’t seem to value him. Not as an equal, which I think is one of the most important things in a relationship. She seemed regretful (of the one night stand), ashamed (of having feelings for an employee), then regretful (for falling for an employee). The worst part was her always pulling rank, especially when Ryan was trying to be more vulnerable.

Still hunting after those swoon-worthy romance stories, I couldn’t not give this book a try after I read the description.

I liked the idea for this book and It was super easy to read, however Ryan’s character annoyed me.

He was so focussed on Sam being his boss, paying his wages and his being her underling, that it really got under my skin. So she’s your boss, get over it! Women can be in charge. There was also the sheer amount of insecurities and ego that he had that’s made every conversation feel like a battle.

Sam was easily likeable, she was smart and witty and didn’t take crap from anyway, but she was also sweet and caring and little damaged herself.

Overall an enjoyable read, even if I did want to smack Ryan most of the time.

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
This book had a promising start. A grumpy Gus meets a bit of sunshine in a bar. She’s lost her grandad and he’s questioning his life choices whilst being a very unfriendly prickly pear. But there is a spark. They hook up and part ways in the morning only to discover that he is her new boss.

This book just did not work for me. The leads had no chemistry. They were both trying way too hard. She to be sunshine-y and yet smart. He to be an ass because his life has sucked. I did not believe that they were irresistible to me another.
His issues from the past overwhelmed him. The work dynamics were a little off and I did not believe that they were working on an app. The constant abruptness would not have made him an easy employee to keep.
Unfortunately, none of the story worked for me. I hate giving low ratings on ARCS but in this case, there is no other choice.
