A good start to the nightworld series. The whole section where Poppy || was mad at James and refusing to let him near her was annoying||. Phil's ||initial reaction to seeing James with poppy was infuriating too, his sister was dying and he was worried about the guy she fancied having a little one on one time with her, she was 16 and only had a few weeks to live, give the girl a break||. We as readers ofcourse know that wasnt actually what was happening anyway but still, priorites. Other than that I did enjoy the story, I liked fact that they became friends after she defended him, that was a sweet touch. The Nightworld was introduced quite well in this book and we met a few characters we will see again later if I remember correctly.
poor writing, poor character development. the plot was almost laughable it was so awful. almost.....at least it only took me a few hours to read it.
Eh. Not a huge fan of this. I love YA books, but I think this series might be more on the Y than the A side for me.
medium-paced
Great premise, but I didn't enjoy the way the story developed and how predictable it was.
I loved these books when I was at school, secret vampire was always my favourite. I'm not too thrilled with the technology updates - James looking up pancreatic cancer on Wikipedia which hadn't been invented at the time, whilst still counting down to the millenium in the book. do they think young people today won't understand that it was written in the 90's? Hell, if they don't know what a cassette tape is, they could always check. On Wikipedia....

You know what's disappointing? Reading all the books in a series only to find out it doesn't end. I have no hope for wrapping up this series because it's been over 20 years since the 9th book was released. Why write a series and not finish it? It's killing me inside not knowing how it ends!
