This entire book made me feel like noting at all had happened. I understood there was a sequence of events and that stuff took place, but I felt like I was just waiting for the plot to happen. Maybe its the fact that this is a shorter book and its part of a series, but this book made me feel like I wasted my money (in the end I returned my book).

This book to me was fantastic when I was in high school. However after rereading it again many years later I didn't like it as much. The writing feels more geared towards younger people and you get the feeling that the characters are one-dimensional. I would recommend them to teens only.

I like the idea of the Night World and I very much enjoyed the plot twist near the end.

It's no wonder these were re-released with updated covers - they seem to be very modern, for being written so long ago. Some moments were very cheesy but as always, for me, the main vampire character charmed me into liking the book. I probably won't read the entire series, but I would read another one starring Ash or James. :)

The first time I read this book I was probably 12 or 13. I was a huge fan of basically every L. J. Smith novel I could get my hands on. Now, nearly 20 years later (ugh) I've just read it again after reading a behemoth from Anne Rice. And I love it still, but for very different reasons!

SpoilerWhen I was a kid I don't think I really understood, as most kids didn't, the reality of cancer. I don't remember the plots to any of these books, and it didn't come back to me as I re-read, so I'm guessing the cancer part just didn't touch me when I was an early teen. But goodness was it devastating to read about this time. Maybe because I'm closer to the mother's age (probably) than Poppy's, but I actually had to put the book down a couple times to get myself to calm down a bit.

The book is very short and really just as good, if not better, than a lot of the paranormal YA coming out now and over the last few years. I'm surprised the Night World series hasn't been made into a tv show yet like Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle. Perhaps one day!

I've been in an overall slump after watching all of The Vampire Diaries on Netflix; I know that L.J. Smith wrote the books but since I just watched the show I didn't quite feel like reaching for those books to read. BUT this book was the perfect (cheesy) paranormal type book that I knew I was wanting to read. Plus, it was light and I was able to put it down in one day. I hope to read the rest of this series and hopefully (sooner or later) read the books in The Vampire Diaries.

First of all, I know I tend to give a lot of books five stars, but this is one of my favorite book series ever. I have read them so many times and I couldn't resist buying the new collector's edition boxed set. Naturally I had to start reading the series again immediately.

If I have to be honest, this is probably my least favorite book in the series. The back and forth between Poppy and James still seems a little ridiculous to read, especially with how quickly Poppy changes her mind. I cringe every time I read a couple of those parts.

BUT the entire idea behind this series and the soulmate principle is fascinating. And I can't resist a good friends to lovers story. Despite the few scenes mentioned above, Poppy and James do still have a good friendship represented throughout the book. They seem to understand each other even though neither one understood why.
