This is like vampire romance Lite. Read more like a short story than a whole book, but I liked how quickly and completely she managed to sketch the characters. Entertaining and sweet. I was a little distracted by the name of the main character (especially if you've seen the Seinfeld where Poppy [an old guy character] pees on the couch)
My Booktube
listen this is a 90s paranormal romance aimed at teens written by a white woman. Don't go in expecting anything too grand or incredible besides a cute lil vampire romance and you'll probs like it.
Honestly I don't have a lot to say since I am 100% trash for L.J. Smith's writing style. My one complaint is that

Spoiler
we find out about Poppy and Phil being witches randomly towards the end and it feels so weird to put in like the last chapter, although yeah ofc it'll make sense in the long run but still this feels like such a weird place to put the info
I was introduced to L.J. Smith via the CW series The Vampire Diaries and decided to read the books. The storyline to this is a good one. Essentially, Poppy discovers she has terminal cancer and the only way to live is if her best friend James turns her into a vampire. The characters are engaging, the only problem is that the storyline is pretty one dimensional. There is only one thing going on at once so it's a very easy read. Bottom line if you like YA paranormal romance it's fine, but it's not even close to being as good as Twilight.
Vad besviken jag är över att dem inte kysstes. Ville det. Behöver. Kan inte vänta tills jag skaffar nästa bok.
I'm going through and re-reading the Night World series, and this is the first one. I originally read them out of order (I started with book two, Daughters of Darkness and skipped around from there), so I appreciate more now how the world is set up for the reader and how the soon-to-be major characters are introduced. I still don't feel like enough of the world is established in this book. It needs more meat. The writing is okay, but I enjoyed the story more once I focused on the events over how they're told.
It's one of my lesser favorites in the series, and I'm basically re-reading it because I bought the three omnibus' currently in print---it came out to 3 1/3 dollars a book so I went for it.

It's not a bad book, but it doesn't do much for me. I hope the other ones live up to my memory.
I was surprised to see how fairy well this book aged!
If you were a fan of this series years ago ad you're thinking of rereading I'd say don't worry and go for it.
