I'm basically trash for anything involving vampires. Especially angsty teen vampires mixed with Witches, Werewolves and more. This was a super quick read and a great start to the 8 book series. I like that it jumped into the world almost right away and there was no huge build up to the Night World (which sounds totally dope). The main gal was a little bit annoying at a few points but like, hi this is late 90's YA. I'm all in on this series and can't wait to get more into the world.

Felt like everybody just accepted everything way too easy and there was no real emotion put into life-changing decisions! And that everything just wrapped up all nice with a bow on it...
Might have liked it better when I was younger but don't think I'll be reading the rest of the series now.

A journey down memory lane, to a different time when vampire books ruled the world. :)

Poppy lives next door to her best friend and secret love interest, James. One day she gets very sick and her mom takes her to a doctor. They discover that she has cancer and not much time left.

It was a big blow to her and her family, she looked healthy and is so young.

James believes that he can save her. But will have to reveal his secret doing so. It would open her eyes to a whole new world, the Night World. And she will have to say goodbye to everything she knows.

It’s not the best, as vampire books go, but is very enjoyable and nostalgic to read. :)

It was an enjoyable trashy paranormal romance. Not the best, but it was what I expected.

Night World
By L.J. Smith

“You don't love a girl because of beauty. You love her because she sings a song only you can understand.”

4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My vampire obsessed daughter adored this book so, as I have refused to read any of her Twilight books, I agreed to take it on. I have rated it with her in mind as it is written for a much younger audience than me!

I am much happier with her reading this series than the Twilight series as Poppy is a strong minded girl and James is respectful and - most importantly, - her own age! We see him valuing her consent and is a good boyfriend all in all. I liked that their romance was rooted primarily in friendship and this in particular set this book apart from the usual YA crap.

Night World was gripping and easy to read. Poppy had a strong voice throughout and the characters were well written. I will be treating my daughter to the rest in the series and probably reading them myself too!
