Thanks to my TikTok algorithm, I’ve learned a lot about climbing Mt Everest this spring. I heard about this book and wanted to check it out. Despite this being about a climb in 1996, this book was still fascinating and very easy to picture thanks to me following a polish guy on his climb this year. First non-fiction book of the year in the books.

Read this in one day. Bleak and horrifying and thrilling.

A must read. A tough read (make sure you are warm). A haunting series of events after plans are discarded. Follow-up the read with a google.

I can’t believe this is a true story. I read it so fast bc I couldn’t stop thinking about it. What if they gave the oxygen mask to Yasuko Namba instead of Sandy Pittman? What happened to Andy Harris? How did Beck survive?? I still don’t understand why anyone would put themselves through trying to climb Mount Everest. It’s incredible that more people didn’t die since you lose the ability to think clearly at that altitude. AND HOW DID THEY CLIMB MOUNT EVEREST WITHOUT SLEEPING AT ALL???
