I was very into the trope of this but didn't so much love the execution. spoilersSeeing only one day makes sense as a storytelling choice but I guess I'm used to more living in the loop than we got to see here. Because of that, so much of this felt like exposition. Also, Jack and Gemma were separated for what felt like too much of the one day that they had. This was fine mostly but not a fave.

Sometimes it feels like we're stuck in the same routine over and over again, but what happens when you're stuck in the same day over and over again?

I loved how we had both experiences, Jack's awareness and attempt to get out of the loop and Gemma's gradual figuring out that she's stuck. It read a lot like a day in the life with the added layer of the Groundhog Day. I appreciated that we didn't have to read a new day over and over again, rather heard stories about all the other days.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Déjà Glitch in exchange for my review.

Oh my gosh, where to start! This books was such a fun and adorable read! My friends and I chose this for our book club and we could not have picked a more perfect first book for it! The story follows Gemma as Jack attempts to convince her that they have been stuck in a time loop! I loved how their story unfolds! Lila, Gemma’s best friend, was such a fun addition and she really helps Gemma get a push out of her comfort zone! I cannot wait to read what Holly James has next in store!

It's a novel approach to tackle Groundhog Day from the perspective of Andie MacDowell's character, and I wish it had worked. Without seeing the days repeat, we get very little of the absurd delight we would from being in on the joke, and instead we're asked to accept the premise without seeing it -- much like the protagonist -- and move on.

As a romance, this book is disappointing because the other lead spends most of his time offstage. There are a few distinct scenes, but the protagonist spends equal amounts of time alone and with her BFF. Those best friend scenes become as memorable and entertaining as the scenes with the lead, competing for the focus.

The result is a book that's more about self-discovery than about falling in love (the epilogue focuses more on the brother, and a side character, than the love interest), and consists of more telling than showing.

My rating may be generous. Parts of this book are cute (and funny!) but the ending, in which Gemma mind-numbingly narrates everything that we *just read,* unintentionally mimicking the repetition of the relived time loop day that the characters are stuck in, was the least of the book’s problems. Some quotes, to illustrate my point:

“He softly laughed” (76).
“Jack quietly laughed” (86).
“He gently laughed” (95).
“Jack quietly laughed” (134).
“Patrick quietly laughed” (169).
“She quietly laughed” (272).
“Her father echoed her quiet laugh” (272).

Ad nauseam.

In the acknowledgements, James thanks her “editor extraordinaire.” I’m not so sure that’s credit where credit is due…

Kinda cute ngl. I like the idea that they were stuck in a loop until they made different choices.

Absolutely fucking perfect.

DID NOT FINISH

BOOORING! I couldn’t do it, it was VERY instalove and i’m not about that

This book was good the epilogue was crappy. Really wasn’t even an epilogue bc there was only a 2 week jump and you didn’t learn anything new about how thier life change. The book is predictable. The writing is good and there a lot of detail

4.5 Stars - Oh what a blast. I blew through this in two sittings because it was so much fun to read. Gemma and Jack had so much chemistry and the story was so compelling that I didn't even mind that there was zero spice, something that would usually render a romance pretty dry for me
