This was such a unique and fascinating book, complexly told and ultimately engrossing. I'll admit, this book sucked me in by the end, these characters sucked me in. But I'm not sure it's one I'll think back to for years. I loved the different personalities of the band, specifically the "background" characters like Karen, Graham, Eddie, and Warren. Honestly, Billy and Daisy's story was somehow the least captivating? I'm glad I finally sat down and read this book, but I can't help but think about how much better The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is. I'd definitely be interested in listening to the audiobook, though!

Honestly I’m pretty torn between a 4.75 and 5. I think what’s dropping me down is the lack of diverse characters, but ah I’m going back to a 5. The book was so interesting and clever to be written like a documentary. It really helped pace the book and I felt transported into this rock and roll world Taylor Jenkins Reid created.

The surprise that Julia was the author was great that got me! I probably should have known given the authors other book seven husbands that the main narrator would somehow be connected to the story. But still it got me and that was a nice tie-in.

  • the narrative perspective was a bit difficult to get into, it was easy to read though
  • i didn't really like any of the characters but thats a better representation of reality i guess
  • i find it rather unrealistic that the band members tell such intimate and private things about themselves even if it was half a century ago
  • i like that Julia, Camilas and Billys first daughter turned out to be the author and wanted to know more about the story of her parents

So good! The characters all felt so real, the interview style was really cool, and the backstage view of the 70s music industry was so interesting. This is the kind of book you could reread and notice so many things you didn't think about the first time. Warren was my favorite, but this is one of those stories where everyone has a different character. This book made me laugh out loud and tear up at some moments, too. I can't recommend it enough.
Graham and Karen broke my heart...and that scene where Daisy jumped into the pool in that beautiful dress was so stunning and so painful!
