As a depressed and anxious lesbian and former Catholic I thought I would love this, but honestly it was just eh. The characters seemed kind of flat and uninspired and Gilda was just not likable to me. Her obsessive thought patterns seemed a little trite, and the way she handles her relationships had me constantly groaning. I need to stop reading realistic, sad, depressing books about depression.
This one missed for me. It had the makings of a good read but fell short. Maybe it needed more humour? 2.5 rounded up.
It started out good enough (although written in present tense), but then I was bothered by all the unnecessary replacements for "say": I lie, she comments, I ask, she answers, I reply, he insists, I repeat, I confess, I explain...
When she fumbles with her key at her "front" door, even though she lives in a small apartment, which I have to think has only one door, I had to stop.

Usually not the type of book I enjoy but the narrator’s voice was exactly my brand of quirky, yay.

This is one of those surprising reads. I really identified with her on some level. Definetely on my to-re-read list.

I absolutely loved the blunt humor of this book. I somehow resonated with the absurd, reflective thoughts about the world of the protagonist's internal dialogue. Like how cute it actually is that humans have hospitals as we would find it immensely cute if other animal species create infrastructure around helping other hurt animals. The first half was very funny but the second half got very weird (still liked that part) - everything got very messy and absurd as the protagonist is going through some mental health problems and the mental state of the person was reflected in the writing style.
I found a lot of the thoughts very relatable and maybe I should be concerned by that.
