I was enjoying this book but somewhere in the middle there was a chapter that felt almost like it was from another book.

Don't let the title fool you... This has nothing to do with hunting or fishing, which is disappointing. However, the writing is superb and Bank's narrator, Jane Rosenal, is sharp, witty, and real. Although her direction in life doesn't seem to lead her very far, it's a pretty accurate portrayal of a new-to-publishing assistant who doesn't quite know what she wants from her life or her career. But I like that she's not in a hurry to find out. She's a go-with-the-flow kind of gal and completely genuine. But the descriptions and the dialogue are what kept me reading this smart, fresh collection of stories.

The best part of this book was the last section, so I guess I'm okay with how long it took me to trudge through it. This line (p. 257): You are the man I didn't know I could hope for.

I was just not getting into any of the books I was reading, so I picked up this light book from a pile of paperbacks I had picked up from a used book store to read during travel. The main character, Jane, is fun and quirky. Although lots of frustrating things happen to her, she remains upbeat. My one frustration with the book (or is it really a series of short stories?) is the chapter/vignette that focuses on the family living below Jane. I kept thinking the author would come back to them. Why was that story in there? I WANT TO KNOW MORE!! What happened to the guy who was soon to become a father to two kids - one with his ex-wife and one with his girlfriend? Please let me know!

3.5
I’ve had this book on my shelf for years and never picked it up. It was quirky and the writing flowed easily through multiple seasons of the main character’s life. I enjoyed it but it just didn’t tie it all together for me.
