Started off hating this one & wondering what made me so different from all the rest of the people reviewing it here...
Thing is, this particular book seems to work its way into your heart little by little & get you utterly hooked by the end (which comes in the form of a hilarious last chapter).
I'd easily recommend it -even though I have to say that Ms. Banks' writing style (with all it's tiny, time-skipping paragraphs) took some getting used to.

I always remembered loving this book, when I first read it, which was maybe 2001. After reading it again, I realized I love this book so much and it has stayed with me in ways I did not realize for the past 20 years or so.
Its just perfect, its just a perfect book. I'm so sad she passed young, but I'm happy it made me check this book out again.

I enjoyed this book as a weekend read. The characters are very realistic and one wants to know more about them. The story, even in a short story format, moves along and keeps one interested. But the ending was anticlimactic and just - boring. Yes, I know it's much like real life. The last story had a different feel and a different voice than the rest and it wasn't as much fun.
I really identified with the main character. There was a chapter in there that seemed misplaced with her story, but it still held me to the end. Reading it was like reading a friend's story and you wanted her to end up happy.
Eh. Can't even remember why it was on my to-read list. It made me anxious and sad, and not in interesting ways.
This book lacked coherence, and I didn't get attached to any of the characters, at all. I can't even honestly tell you it WAS the same character throughout the stories, even though the name Jane kept coming up.
There's something kind of empty about this writing... it's not bad, but I just couldn't sink my teeth into it.

This book highly exceeded my expectations. Based off the book blurb alone, I anticipated a light and fun beachy read, but perhaps nothing with much substance.
However, upon finishing, I want to pick apart and analyze every chapter and ponder and then discuss it with a group. Basically I guess I’m trying to say there was way more substance to The Girls’ Guide than I expected. My only complaint was it read TOO quickly and at the end, I was not ready to say goodbye to Jane and her witty sense of humor.
