A wonderful portrayal of what is family, how is family made.
Families are complicated - this is the normal. The further we live away from a fantastical ideal - the better that is.
A perspective change of adoption too- it’s not dine out of desperation and gloom. It can be a joyous and affirming action in both parties.

I really wanted to LOVE this book but it just came up a bit short for me. As an adoptee, I loved the focus on changing the narratives about adoptions always being tragic and the ‘last-resort’ - and showing a positive adoption story. All that being said, I think I just didn’t mesh with the author’s writing style. I found her really scattered and the messages got diluted in a ton of plot and dialogue filler. I found the author jumped around a lot and didn’t provide enough clarity to bring me alongside the timeline jumps, which impacted the overall reading experience.
It’s also worth nothing that sometimes adoption stories are super adoptive-parent-centric and they don’t really explore the adoptee’s perspective. This falls into the same category and it did the message a bit of a disservice.
