I’m not really sure what rating to give this book. It was enjoyable, and in fact, I couldn’t put it down for some parts, but for other parts, I found it dragged a little (not a lot though!). I’m also not really sure how I feel about India. I loved how much she loved and her fierceness (also her fierceness IN her love) but she felt a little wishy washy in other respects and a little too sure of herself in others (who is that confident in their decisions at 16?). I can definitely relate to her panic about the kids though 😆 I LOVED the kids, although I wanted a bit more depth to Jack. I loved Frankel’s writing style and way the story unspooled. I’ll definitely read more of her books.

Laurie Frankel takes pieces of her life and turns them into stories with the most lovable characters. Not as good as This is How it Always Is but enjoyable nonetheless.

Family Family by Laurie Frankel touched my heart. Being a part of a family in which adoption is a central component, I was interested in the way in which the author would approach the topic. Frankel clearly wanted her audience to see adoption as a way in which families are born-not a last choice, not a painful decision, not regretful- just another way in which a family comes to be.
The characters are well defined and real. India is a force: opinionated, focused, funny, thoughtful, with a kindness and compassion beyond her years. The members of her family are also well articulated and their thoughts about adoption and family stretch and grow as the story unfolds.
I appreciate the way in which Frankel presents her opinions about families created and defined by adoption as well as the ways in which our society tends to present adoption and contrasts the two. This was an engaging and illuminating read.

4.5 stars. I love [a:Laurie Frankel|300536|Laurie Frankel|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1698110461p2/300536.jpg] and her stories always stick with me. The way that she creates families in all of her books is really wonderful and has the ring of truth even when they are so unique. I also laugh out loud in her books, and I appreciate that.
