The foster care stuff did not feel accurate at all (from working in the system), but it was overall a decent read from an adoptive mother about experiences of adoption.

This is a great book about adoption and how all families are families no matter how they’re formed. Sweet characters, especially loved the kids.

The story begins with a 16 year-old, India Allwood, who is passionate and persistent and being raised by her no-nonsense, lawyer, single mother. India wants nothing more than to act on stage. When she becomes pregnant, she and her boyfriend spend their days happily growing their baby until she is born and placed with a single mother. India goes to college and begins to really peruse her dream of acting. When putting herself so deeply into a character’s role she neglects to take her birth control, she becomes pregnant again also choosing to place the baby with an adoptive family. Later when she moves from the stage to television, she adopts two children. While being an integral part of India’s life and who she is, the families she helped make all come together under a set of circumstances.

Maybe it’s just been a tough last two weeks personally, but I didn’t love this. The premise of a complex family and examining the challenges of adoption was interesting. The plot itself felt simultaneously completely unrealistic and unnecessarily drawn out.

I got about 25% through this and gave up. I went back to see whether I had accidentally picked up YA fiction because it read like a story written for kids. It didn't hold my interest and I didn't care about any of characters.
