I'm ranking this as my least favourite of Laurie's books. Thematically, it was more complex than one, two, three, but the same point about adoption and family was driven to its grave.

Character wise, the family members were not as charming and unique as her other characters from the other books. The indosyncracies in this felt very superficial, wearing a superhero as an outfit and nothing influential on their personality. And India's wry delivery felt very dry.

On the surface, Family Family is a book about adoption. But it is discussed at the realistic intersection of life, love, regret, and acceptance. India Allwood may be at the center of the story and the connection between its families, but she is not the heart. Each character shines in their role and brings their own personal meaning of family to light.

Adoption brought to you by the Disney channel. I agree we need more positive books about adoption, but this all felt a little too light and breezy. I wish the author had dug deeper into the characters (disclaimer: I always say that). Everything fell into place too easily. It didn’t address the complexity of life.
