Adoption brought to you by the Disney channel. I agree we need more positive books about adoption, but this all felt a little too light and breezy. I wish the author had dug deeper into the characters (disclaimer: I always say that). Everything fell into place too easily. It didn’t address the complexity of life.

I had a lot of issues with the way this book handled the complexities of motherhood and adoption.

A tale of adoption from multiple angles. The message of the story was that not all adoption stories are birthed from trauma nor do they all lead to trauma, and I think it was a smart decision to tell a story that the author was familiar with given she has adopted, herself.
I really, really, really loved this book, and Laurie Frankel is officially one of my favorite authors. Just the right amount of twists and turns… perhaps unrealistic but in the best way possible. Also: does this make Fig an appropriate name for a child??

I love how the children here were never too adult to talk like the author Laurie Frankel knew how when you speak to your children about how you want them to answer, they would. These children are emotionally intelligent and I looked forward to (albeit predictably) what they would come up with next. This is my first time reading a POV on adoption like this. It's very new and refreshing.
