This was an absolutely incredible read! I was enthralled from the first chapter and could not put it down. It beautifully expanded my definition of family and challenged me to think about what preconceptions and misconceptions I held about adoption, all while weaving a gorgeous layered narrative. Highly recommend!
This is the best book I’ve read in a while. People who know me know I am a sucker for “chosen” family or any other kind of family that isn’t a husband, wife, and 2.5 kids. I love my life…and my family…just as it is, and yet, it is so often so misunderstood and pitied. And the author’s note of this book, like some of her others, is worth reading just on its own. Beautiful writing, beautiful humans, and beautiful reminders here.
If you have been touched by adoption this is a great read. And even if you haven't been touched by adoption it's fabulous.
1. I hope my exes hang out and talk about how much they miss me too.
2. I really loved this book. Despite the characters almost being *too* likable, I loved the premise and plot. The conversations around adoption were heartwarming and important to the overall narrative. Additionally, I loved the authors note that POSITIVE representation matters in every story.

I just love the way Frankel writes, and trying to describe what I mean by that is so hard to describe, but almost like everything she writes is a spiral? Anyhow, I just like her style of writing, but then add multi-dimensional characters and fascinating slices of life, and I just end another book not quite ready to leave the cast of characters behind.
I loved the writing of this book, such good timing, I laughed and smiled and got my heartstrings tugged at. Loved every character. Loved how outrageous it was.
However, not my lived experience so I can’t speak to the perspective of someone who’s life has been impacted by adoption

Laurie Frankel does it again with a heartfelt, expansive story about families of all kinds. Warm, witty, thoughtful… I loved every second. Definitely a fav of 2024.

Not my favorite from this author(This is how it always is—one I loved and recommend a lot) but it was a good story and a good message about what family is. I had on my list for awhile but then heard it on currently reading podcast so I picked it up off my TBR
