9yo gets lost in the Appalachian mountains after dipping off the trail to go pee and her mom and brother are too busy fighting to notice her leave. She somehow loses her sense of direction so quickly and just keeps going and going and going. Winds up in another state. Hallucinating from lack of food and water. Gets sick. Really sick. Death starts to follow her.
Not the normal energy I get from King, where I expect a supernatural horror. This is just real. Good but not great.

More like 3.5. I almost cried at the end! I know! But I did.
It's not a horror book. That much you should know going in. On the cover it says something about something might be in the woods but there isn't. Nothing supernatural, anyway. If you leave that expectation behind, you're much more likely to enjoy the book.
I loved Trisha. How could you not? I wanted her to win. I admired her courage and resourcefulness. (It was kind of a strange coincidence that I was reading this and [b:The Martian|18007564|The Martian|Andy Weir|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1413706054s/18007564.jpg|21825181] at the same time, two wildly different survivor stories. With survivor stories, it's essential, isn't it, that you like the protagonist? Well, I did, I liked Trisha a lot, I wanted her to win, I wanted mean ol' Steve to stop putting her through hell and he does, after a week and two hundred some-odd pages. But it's just about this little girl surviving an intense situation and for me, that was enough.
