About 4 people in the past month have told me this is their favorite Stephen King book so I thought I'd give it a shot. And... it's fine. Interesting. That's pretty much all I can think to say about it.

Instead of watching whatever circus was on TV tonight, I finished my 17th book of 2025.
At 219 pages, this story was like a novella compared to some of my more recent reads. It was simple—a girl gets lost in the woods and thinks something lurks after her. King writes the story so well that I feel like I’m a 9 year old girl again jumping at shadows and letting my imagination get the best of me.
It was a quick read—I finished in just over a day, but I really enjoyed it and it took my mind off the current hell of the world. It also made me ready for baseball (but it will be a cold day in hell before I root for the Red Sox!)

An enjoyable quick read but as ever with Stephen King I felt the ending could've been better
This is one of my favorite Stephen King novels, and I am unable to explain why. King ignores many of his standard tropes and conventions, making this book a really unique one from him. The story is very gripping, well told, and I recommend it for everyone.

Short, but very sweet story. King proves himself a master of characterization in this slim volume. The supernatural element feels unnecessary, but the Maine woods are wonderful.
