Belated Halloween read. Hard to find a good Halloween romance, this was a decent romance, go go geekiness, but alas not Halloween-y.

More like 3.5 rounded up. It is a bummer to figure out the big twist 158 pages before it is revealed, but I did like the story a lot, enough to push through and read it in a day.

This is my first book from this author, as well as my first romance-horror book ever, I think.
I was pleasantly surprised on both accounts.

The book was entertaining and fun. While it did slow down a bit after the halfway point, it wass still an easy listen.
One of the reasons it did slow down, was because it dragged things out. I understand that some of it was needed to further other plots than the mystery, but for me romance is only so much fun, if you know what I mean?
Reg the mystery arc, though, it was interesting. I saw it coming, and was a little annoyed at how the author handled it, but it was interesting enough to keep me listening.

The writing was good, and the characters were individual enough for me not to have any problem remembering who was who.

All in all, I'm glad I took the chance on this book. It was just what I needed.

I started this book months ago and got bored about halfway through. I was recently on a flight and forgot to download a new audiobook, so I picked this one up since it was already on my device. The second half was much better than the first.

I enjoyed the setting and the romance. Harper is generally good for a laugh, and I found myself smiling several times over the antics of the characters. The mystery plot was kind of a dud, but I enjoyed the paranormal/ghost aspects. Not my favorite of Harper's novels.

Quickie Review

Better Homes and Hauntings has the same humor and flair the other books by Harper have.  It’s fun, flirty, and had me laughing at several parts.

There’s a bit of mystery, and ghostly activity.  You keep trying to figure out exactly what’s happening. And see a budding romance along the way.

If you want a quick read, and are a fan of Harper’s previous books, you should definitely give this stand alone a try.

Troupes: Ghost Story

Better Homes and Hauntings is vastly different from anything else that Molly Harper has written. This stand alone doesn't really have any supernatural creatures like her Half Moon Hollow, Jane Jamerson, Naked Werewolf, or Mystic Bayou. This book is more like a ghost story, I wouldn’t really call this book a paranormal romance since the romance isn't between anyone paranormal. I would compare this book to Nora Roberts In the Garden series, which I also really love. Molly Harper also has a YA paranormal romance series called Sorcery and Society and two contemporary romance series called Bluegrass and Southern Eclectic.

There are many things different about this book compared to Molly Harper’s normal writing. IE there are multiple couples coming together in this book, the book is written in many POV’s including both couples and the cousin and the ex, and I hate to say it but not up to her normal standards of humor. The multiple POVs are interesting but a bit confusing in the audiobook, there isn't much of a transition between the different POVs so sometimes it took me a minute before figuring out who was thinking/ talking which detracted from the story.

I did super enjoy the ghost story and the comparison to the current day house guests. I didn’t fall in love with any of the main characters but I did really love the pop culture references. I also really loved the obsession with Greek Mythology throughout and the multiple comparisons. In the end I felt like this story was really good but I don't think it will ever go on my favorites list and I will rarely if ever reread this book unlike all of Molly Harper's other books which I reread often.
