Perfect Christie,  Miss Marple at her best

The first Agatha Christie book I've read and it didn't disappoint.

Set in post WW2 Britain, in a village that is no longer a place where everyone knows everyone else.  Many people left the village and new people have moved in; everyone has to accept are who they claim to be. This is as strong thread to the plot - are people who they say they are?

The novel uses several plot trails with lots of twists and turns and gives just enough clues so that once the twist occurs you can feel it make sense.

I didn't manage to work out who the murderer was until it was revealed at the end - then it all clicks into place. I'd have to re-read to pick up on all of the intrictate clues weaved throughout the story.

A good old fashioned murder mystery.

After a slow beginning, the book picks up to become a very interesting whodunnit. Some twists I guessed, others I half-guessed, and a few that went over my head, which I find to be a good balance. Not as much of a fan of Miss Marple, but the cast seemed to me among her more developed. The ending was very satisfying.

The premise of this book is fascinating - the murder is announced before it happens. The plot is executed well with plenty of twists. I’m not sure what it is that has me holding back on the rating - I think the motivation for the original murder and the choice of how is was done felt a little too contrived for me.

My fave Miss Marple story by far. Even though I guessed the 'who done it' part it's still gripping and very enjoyable. Love the detective and the little mysteries throughout.
