Even though the ending was a bit less surprising than its predecessor, the story still kept me hooked until the very end. How I wish I could just spend a day in this magical Fae land.

The Queen is exiled.
The King has betrayed his Queen.
The Great General is conspiring against the crown.
The land of Faerie is tainted with lies, betrayals and more lies.
When the exiled Queen returns, will she forgive her king for his betrayal or drive a dagger through his heart?
A mortal who cannot live in the mortal world. A human who only knows the Kingdom of Elfhame and belongs there.
An immortal king who tricked his wife.
Cardon and Jude are at war with each - other and the traitors of the Crown.
Blood will be spilled, trusts will be broken and lies will be told.

The first book is still def my fav. The ending of this one was a little cheesy and it dragged a little. I still like Jude and Cardan, I kinda wish I cared more for the rest of the cast tho

I think this was my favourite book in the trilogy. It was a bit shorter than the others and it was much faster-paced. I liked that the conflict from the previous book was tackled quite quickly and head-on, instead of having it take ages before the characters talk about it. The political side of things was more interesting and it was nice to see some characters from Holly’s other books come into it as well. Also, I really liked the ending - I didn’t see it coming.

The relationship between Jude and Cardan is developed nicely in this book and I enjoyed reading their scenes together. I thought Cardan’s feelings for Jude in particular were really sweet.

I would recommend it if you like darker YA stories/romances.

SpoilerViolent scenes, use of mind-control / mind-altering magic akin to drug use, issues of consent/coercion through magic

The culmination of an amazing series. I liked it less than the first two books because some parts were a little bit boring and too protracted but this was obviously inevitable, going into the direction of a happy ending. It cannot always stay full of suspense. I hope I will not fall into a “finished an amazing series and don’t know what to do with my own mortal life” depression after reading this. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow
