I'm toying with four stars, but easily, this tome could have been written with perhaps 300 fewer pages. The author was extremely verbose with character descriptions/building and the genealogy of the saga.
For you witch fans, you will not find brooms or spells in here. You will discover a history spanning thirteen generations of folks with certain degrees of abilities dating back to 17th century Scotland. You will also note the author likes her erotica and in-breeding. The latter we call incest.
The ending begs you to pick up the second book in the series, but I will rest for awhile, if and when I ever decide to continue. Perhaps I should polish up my broom and go for a spin.

2.5 stars. I am not the best historical fiction fan. That probably played into this. Also, I am not the biggest fan of pregnancy tropes.
This was a long book, but worth it. It's well written and just a good story. The rest of the series, with the exception of Blackwood Farm, is pretty disappointing.
