The author did really well conveying PTSD from Sexual Trauma. The main characters symptoms were spot on. The MC’s love interest does such a great job earning her trust. The story goes so much deeper than a small town romance.

Emma was “raised” the deserted by her mother by the time she was 18. A carousel of men, drugs and dirty cops were the norm, any sort of schooling was not.

Mid 20’s now, she moves back to SC to find her grandmother LaLa. LaLa is loved by her entire community; including first responders. One in particular Reed, is everything she’s learned to fear and hate, but she can’t deny the pull between them.

Slowly we get spice and of course no difficult relationship grows unilaterally. Can they make it to the other side?

This book is a hot mess, I cannot BELIEVE the 5K 4-star plus reviews. Did you all read this book?

1. hot mess writing
First, the writing is jerky, and it's hard to follow as one action leads to another but at times you're not sure how we got there. Often times multiple people are speaking but you don't know who said what b/c it's not written in a way where you can figure out who said what.

2. hot mess characters
Whatever in the loving fuck is the backstory with the family of crazies that the MC, Reed Ryan (why would you give your MMC two first names

Got about half way through the second chapter and had to quit. Shit just doesn't make sense.
Like, why is her grandmother such an asshole to her? Their conversations don't make sense and Lala seems to think the Mc should still view the world through the eyes of a child. And the whole Lala can NEVER KNOW nonsense... the coffee shop descriptio had me signing off. One second she's supposed to be looking for the dude, the next she's in sky high stilletos getting coffee and mean mugging him. Like, what?
I can't. It feels like a shaky set up to just get to the good stuff, but it all has to be good. Not just the smut.
And enough with the hand twitching!!! I have never in my life had my hand twitch from wanting to touch someone it's so stupid.
