Audiobook. It was ok.

Molly McAdams is the queen of small town romance. Loved every page of this book, and will continue to be a fan.

I couldn’t get into this. FTP.

Okay, I absolutely loved this! I listened to the audiobook of this one, and I absolutely loved the characters and the narrators! It all felt spot on, and they did a great job bringing the characters to life.

This is a sweet contemporary romance with a bit of spice, sweet moments, a lot of trauma, and some very sexy MCs. This was a very realistic romance with an FMC with a horrible past and trust issues who doesn't just immediately get over them when the MMC comes into her life. There is so much emotion between our main characters and their families and friends, with no small amount of compassion from our MMC, Reed, towards our FMC, Emma, as he realizes how much she has been through. He is kind and patient and never pushes her too much. Their line "lie to me" had me crying every time they said it, and he constantly told her to "push" if she needed to and he would never cross the line. Gah, this was definitely an emotional one and one that I will be buying a physical copy of and reading again.

There were a couple of things that drove me absolutely batty, but a quick scream and rant at my dashboard while listening helped me not to get pulled out of the story. The grandma really pissed me off for a good chunk of the book because she was so hypocritical and judgemental.
SpoilerWhen Emma showed up, the last time she had seen her Lala was when she was a traumatized sixteen-year-old, and Lala knew some of what she had been drug through for entire life, and she had the nerve to blame Emma and say she abandoned her when she WAS A CHILD! And then Lala had the audacity to act disappointed when Emma was distrustful of men, police, and people she didn't know, when Lala knew what kind of life her mother had lived, instead of being considerate or empathetic. She also was constantly ragging on Reed about making up with his family and on the importance of family while she was treating her granddaughter this way and not trying harder to keep her when she was young, all this after finding out that her mother lied about her committing suicide YEARS ago. Another thing that really bugged me about Lala was that she is so close with all of these first responders, and yet she never called the cops on her daughter and tried to get custody of Emma when she was younger. She mentions that she didn't have any proof, but if it was documented multiple times and there was police called on her or CPS, something eventually would have been done, especially in a small town where everyone knows and loves her. Then we come to the end of the book. And grandma is pissing me off yet again because not only is she dying and didnt tell a soul what was going on so that they could prepare and come to terms with it, but she had signed over custody to Reed of Nora, Emma's little sister that she hadnt known previously had existed... and didn't think that was something she should tell her granddaughter. Knowing from the beginning that Emma didn't trust him because he was a cop, and even though she got past that, it was still frustrating. Then she dies, which felt very sudden and anticlimactic for a character that had been so in the middle of everything in the book to suddenly just not be on page and then be dead a little while later. The other time I got extremely frustrated was in chapter 18 (I think) where something traumatic happens and Lala is sobbing and the first responders are all upset, and Lala is making food and taking it to a family who lives next to Reed and Rowe and asks Emma to take food to Rowe... and NO ONE tells Emma what happened even with her repeatedly asking different people. For. An. Entire. Chapter. I was screaming at my stereo, "Just freaking tell her!" Lala kept making cryptic remarks and acting like Emma should be sad, but then wouldn't fucking tell her what happened, so she walks into Rowe/Reed's house blind not having any comprehension that he watched a toddler die that day and what he might need.

Rating: 4.5⭐️

I have no words. This book is AMAZING.

Swooning over Reed!

Each Character was just written beautifully!

Emma story truly breaks your heart but with Reed being the pure soul he is just makes you love him so much for pushing boundaries in the most respectful ways!

Nora!!! Love this little girl, the 4 letters had me in tears! Such an amazing thing to sneak in there!!

Clever clever author!

MUST READ!!

It would be a 2 for just how SLOW it was, but I’ll go 2.5.
It’s “redeemed” by the last 5ish chapters. 2

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the way this storyline was developed. It didn’t feel unnecessarily verbose, but also gave a complete and developed plot. Would recommend.

Ok story that had its moments. Listened to the audiobook.
