There was so much focus on her emotional state that it made reading some parts unbearable and seemed to drag.

Solid 4.5 stars

Emma is angry, her childhood was horrible and when she finally thought she had made aomething of herself, she was pushed right back down amd runs back to her estranged grandmother. Her anger and hurt almost makes her unlikeable.

Reed is the sunshine of the two of them, he doesn’t want to ignore their connection, even when the uphill battle to get her to see him and not just his uniform seems impossibly steep.

Such a great book, so many fantastic side characters and family.

I liked this book and loved the way the relationship built. A tragic start but a warm and bright end. Definitely a great book!!

Ugh. Reed Ryan is the best book boyfriend. If you’re here for a quirky small-town romance or a smutty adventure, you will be disappointed. Molly McAdams has delivered one heck of an emotionally intense story. I loved the way Emma’s trauma and trauma responses were addressed, and Reed’s understanding and patience is really something to see. He is so tender and empathetic towards Emma as he gets to truly know her and acknowledge how her past is affecting her presently. Emma recognizing her trauma responses and being cognizant of how they’re affecting her interactions with Reed as she learns to trust him shows her strength. She is trying to move forward and their open, albeit reluctant at times, communication helps them so much. There is a miscommunication instance, for those who hate the trope.

Emma had a tough past with abandonment issues, police/authority issues, and abuse issues.  She came to live with her grandmother and met a local officer, Reed. I enjoyed the book. Not a light-hearted read, but a good story.
