I loved so many parts of this book, her wonderful descriptions of the landscape and nature, all the characters were interesting and charming, and their stories wove together in a really nice way at the end.

It’s not a five stars to me compared to her other work and it felt like it really started to lag for me in the middle - it was a VERY long book and my attention span to long sections with descriptive language dropped towards the end

Ohhhhh my. This book was an utter delight. I don’t even know how to describe it properly but I read the last sentence and then whispered to myself “damn” and I guess that sums it up. As others have mentioned, I nearly gave up on this book when it starts inexplicably with a kind of horny fan-fic vibe but it really recovers and develops into a rich, wonderful tale of three humans and their growth into themselves. I will say the repeated sex scenes were a bit eye-roll worthy but maybe I was just being a prude. The chapters about the old man Garnett completely made it up to me though, so humorous and witty and ultimately sweet.

This is immediately one of my favourite novels, I think, and I look forward to reading more by Kingsolver.
