Lovely writing. Every time one character's chapter would end, I wanted only to continue on with that thread of the story. But amid a vivid portrait of the natural world, still vibrant amid all the trespasses of humanity, she writes a tender and perceptive appreciation of the human relationships that form and fit between the shape of society.

This ended up being a very sweet likable story. I struggled with the long winded repetitive nature descriptors in the beginning and was wondering if I’d be able to get through it, and then like the winds that carry the honeysuckle perfume through the book, it changed and I was hooked. The story telling began to weave around me and I was enthralled! I felt like a grown up reading this book and I’m pretty sure I learned something along the way

Main focus is on character’s day to day life. I like the way it draws you into their lives, knowledge and view of the world, which is a different perspective that is nice to acquire by stories like this one. I am now learning that books act as gateways into these different views in life that’d be hard to understand and run into in one’s lifetime.

an absolutely beautifully woven story reflecting on the mirroring of human behavior and nature. i could not get enough of this book!

Kingsolver’s orchestration of words detailing something as minute as leaf mold or as grand as a Mountain range transported me right into this little town in Appalachia.

the characters were crafted so sweetly and organically human, even that ole curmudgeon Garnett <3 the blending of all 3 main character’s stories was done so well, i had no inclination of how they’d be interconnected. i fell head over heels for every character and how they showed love, compassion, grit, independence, grief, and raw human nature. we are all connected, and not meant to do this scary life stuff alone.

if you’re a gardener, birder, southerner, small-towner, or nature freak like me and my mom (who recommended me this book) you should love Prodigal Summer.

5/5 and best book on my shelf for the last 5 years, easily! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very different from her previous but I think in a good way. Obviously a new exploration of her interest in food and in the value of many things: family, work, predators and understanding.
