Made me fall in love with King all over.

This book is incredibly unique structurally and hit me emotionally far more than I expected going in. I was initially tempted to stop after finishing the first half "Low Men in Yellow Coats" but I'm so glad I stuck with it to the end.

I appreciated the way these stories were interconnected, but given the Dark Tower references dropped in the first, I was hoping for more as it went on. The disappointment of not finding any is likely what made the second part feel like less of a thrill for me.

The writing is still good and I do enjoy a lot of what happens after The Low Men In Yellow Coats, but despite the obvious connections, they didn't feel relevant to one another.

It's unlikely that I'll revisit this one in the future.

I liked this more than I thought I would. A series of novellas that are connected, it tells different stories that are connected to people that are affected by the 60's. Particularly the Vietnam War. The first two stories had me fully interested, but the last two lost me a little. I enjoyed the Dark Tower references, but not enough for me to read it again.

Come for 'The Low Men in Yellow Coats' and stay for 'The Low Men in Yellow Coats'. If, like me, you are a fan of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, this first short story in the book is a must-read. In fact, it is required reading, and I have no idea how anybody could read this story without having read anything from The Dark Tower series. Katet? Roses? Tower? Low men? Can-toi? All gibberish to the uninitiated.

After reading that, skip the rest of the book. None of them are any good.
