I think there’s a good chance that were I not in a reading slump making it hard to read even the best books, I would be giving this 5 stars. Kristin Hannah is obviously a very talented writer. This is an incredibly heartbreaking and moving story about two sisters doing their best to survive in occupied France, and the lengths they will go to do what’s right. I did in fact cry quite a lot while reading the last 50 pages. I would recommend this to pretty much anyone.

Kristin Hannah really knows how to pack a punch and make me love a genre I usually don’t read (historical fiction).

This was a moving story set during WWII, following two very polar opposite sisters and the different ways they survived this horrific period. Both sisters were so strong in their own way and always pushed forward despite the traumas they endured. Most of what they endured was incredibly hard for me to read but I think it’s an important story to read.

This book was full of twists and turns that kept me hanging in anticipation the entire time. The unpredictability of war was evident in the story. There were so many moments of heartbreak and by the end, the tears were flowing.

This is one of the most emotional and moving books I’ve ever read. I don’t want to give too much away but trust me, you need to read this one. Please be sure to look up trigger warnings before diving in if needed.

How do I begin... I wanted to like this book, I really did! However, the writing style was so off-putting that I STRUGGLED to get through even 5 pages in one sitting. Some people adore this book, and it has its sweet moments, but overall, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you enjoy subpar literature.

WOW!!!! i initially thought it was gonna be a 2-3 star rating for me because i couldn't even bring myself to pick it up for the first 50% of the book....not gonna lie. BUT THE REMAINING 50% REALLY SAVED THE BOOK FOR ME. Personal shoutout to my boyfriend's mom for suggesting this book to me, I'm glad she did!

If you like historical fiction, or even if you don't, I encourage you to try this book out.

unreal
