This memoir was amazing.

Viola's story was heart wrenching. Viola was incredibly raw about her childhood and how it was filled with racism, poverty, abuse and how it shaped her into who she is today.

I loved that Viola was able to find her person in Julius and overcome her struggles to thrive as a phenomenal black woman, mother, wife, friend, person and artist.

I'm SO glad she was able to find beauty in her blackness and herself. She IS that girl. I love her and will watch her in anything she acts in.

I alternated between the audio and physical book, leaning more towards the audiobook to listen to Viola narrate her own story.

Vulnerable, well told, and incredible. I love her. One of the best memoirs i have read. Her audio telling is beautifully done.
