NOPE. just nope. I had a lot of fun with book 1 and I struggled to get even midway through this book. It’s a terrible reiteration of book one that only succeeds in destroying secondary characters in a pathetic attempt to cobble together a love story. The college kids are so incredibly annoying that the awful romance isn’t even the worst part. Hard, HARD pass on this.
This one almost lost me. 1/2 way thru I was ready to drop it. But I stuck it out and the 2nd half was better. The banter between Gwyn & Wells was cringy and cliche at times. Plot felt like it was lacking, but romance was sweet and enjoyed the “baby witches” Gwyn mentors. Borrowed from Library app/ audiobook and I didn’t care for the voice actress.
Something about her voice trying to be Welsh Wells irked me to no end.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review via Netgalley. A huge thank you to Erin Sterling, Avon, Harper, and Netgalley.
If you’re wanting for a great fall read this October, look no further! The Kiss Curse is a delicious sequel to Erin Sterling’s The Ex Hex, following Gwyn and her purr-fect feline friend Sir Purrcival. Tasked with keeping an eye on Graves Glenn while Vivi and Aunt Elaine are away AND running the family shop on her own, Gwyn has her hands full. When a new coven set on making Graves Glenn home for their dark magic blows into town and a new competing shop opens up across the street, she finds help in the most unlikely of places.
The Kiss Curse is packed with witty banter, fluff for days and a ton of badass girl power.
Erin Sterling delivered us another perfect story to read while cozying up next to a fire in a cabin this fall, (or in your break room at work, whatever you’ve got available). We asked for a book about Gwyn, and were given a tension filled small town enemies to lovers with a side of pumpkin spice.
My only complaints with The Kiss Curse are that it felt like a very close repeat of the Ex Hex, she did not reinvent the wheel with this story in any way. The Kiss Curse follows the same general storyline, involves the same two main families, and has all the same tropes. My biggest issue with this story, however, was the switch in Gwyns character. In The Ex Hex, Gwyn was witty, spunky and offered great wlw representation. In The Kiss Curse, she's the same lovable Gwyn, but I think we lost a great opportunity for that wlw representation when she fell in love with Rhys’ older brother. I was hoping for a story about Gwyn and Jane's journey, not a repeat of Vivi and Rhys (I mean, literally Vivi’s cousin and Rhys’ brother. It doesn’t get closer than this.) To me, that kept this from being a 5 star read.

When I heard there was an Ex Hex #2, I was so stoked because of the absolute chokehold Ex Hex had on me during my first and second reads. Then I heard it was about Gwyn & Wells, and I was admittedly a bit confused. I absolutely loved Gwyn, the badass she is, and Wells seemed like such a random match for her. Then I read the book and of course they’re perfect for each other, how did I not see it before? They work. Like, really, really well. Like Ex Hex, this book was funny, cute, steamy, had a decent mystery plot, and the Halloween vibes were immaculate. I laughed more than once, and the gracious Sirr Purrcival content had me smiling. My only complaint (besides a selfish want for more Rhys, but that’s a whole other post) was that the ending seemed kind of rushed. A lot of build-up, a surprising reveal….and then it’s over. Still, Graves Glen is magical and I’m glad I got to visit again.

My safe space is witchy towns in the middle of nowhere, with little witchy romances and adorable animal companions. Is living in such a place really too much to ask for????
