LOVE! This book ignited my love for reading again and got me more into fantasy. (I’m sure a lot of people say this)

I don't get the hate for this book tbh. Alright, maybe I am a sucker for books like these but then again, I liked the writing, I was cracking up many times because the banter was terrific!

I mean, that Xaden is a “shadow daddy“ was kinda unnecessary because they're seemingly everywhere right now, but that's okay-ish to ignore, in my opinion.

Other than that, I enjoyed reading the book a lot.
The first “twist“ was kind of predictable from the start

(the one where we find out Xaden didn't tell her everything)

but I didn't mind. The second twist though, that was a real twist, at least for me. I didn't see it coming at all that

her brother (Brennan?) was alive!

The other “reveals“ weren't big mysteries in my opinion either

(the mom who ignores the vernin and the dad who knew all along and was hinting things for her)

but then again, this is not a mystery novel.
The book has its flaws but I was having a great time reading it and actually binged the whole thing in one day because I just couldn't stop.

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!!! And yes, Xaden is as good as BookTok says he is. I will never ever stop recommending Fourth Wing, I love it.

It was decent until

the two main characters started seeing each other

. After that, Violet started becoming a bit insufferable..
loved the dragons though 😌

Rebecca Yarrosin trilogia, jonka Siivenisku aloittaa, on kirjailmiö, joka hakee vertaistaan. Tuntuu, kuin kaikki olisivat lukeneet kirjan ja kaikki olisivat pitäneet siitä. Siksi halusin itsekin kirjan lukea, vaikka fantasia, tai erityisemmin (hetero)romantasia ei todellakaan ole juttuni. Kiinnosti tietää, mistä kohistaan ja miksi.

Sanotaan se nyt heti alkuun, että Siivenisku ei ollut varsinaisesti juttuni. Mikä oli aivan odotettavaa. Mutta se yllätti, miten hyvin lopulta viihdyin kirjan parissa ja luin suurimman osan siitä mielelläni (vaikka kirjan puolivälissä oli kyllä sellaista tyhjäkäyntiä ja oman kiinnostuksen lopahtamista, että mietin kesken jättämistä). Ymmärrän, miksi tästä pidetään! Mutta vaikkakin ymmärrän mikä tässä kiehtoo ja vetää puoleensa, niin olen silti vähän yllättynyt siitä, että kirja on niin suosittu. Olen kyllä lukenut kommentteja, joissa sanotaan, että "en piitannut epäuskottavuuksista, kun kirja oli muuten niin vetävä" jne. No, minä jäin kiinni nimenomaan niihin epäuskottavuuksiin, eikä kirjan vetävyys pelastanut kokonaisuutta.

Epäuskottavuuksien lisäksi häiritsi jotenkin paikoin sekava ja vaikeasti seurattava kerronta, turhan köykäisesti rakennettu maailma, ihan yltiöpäinen ja naurettava kirosanojen viljely ja - se romanssi. Ehkä odotti jotain vähän... modernimpaa? Tai ehkä tällainen heteroromanssi ei sitten vain ole minua varten hehe. Pidin kyllä siitä, miten seksikohtaukset oli kuvattu enemmän sellaisen naiskatseen kautta ja ehkä naisten fantasian (?) läpi. Ymmärrän, miksi se vetoaa joihinkin... Pidin myös lohikäärmeistä!

Aika moni on tuntunut menevän kirjan lopusta sekaisin, niin täytyy sanoa, että loppu kyllä osasi iskeä kunnon koukun, sillä vaikka kirjaa lukiessani en todellakaan ajatellut lukea sarjalle jatkoa, niin lopun jälkeen on sellainen olo, että se on vähän niin kuin pakko!

Interesting concept, some cool twists, but insufferably long due to the poor pacing and bad writing. It was like the author was trying to meet a word count in an essay. The characters were flat and I didn’t care about them, especially Violet’s ~I’m so special~ vibe. I did appreciate some disability representation, but anyone who doesn’t know about EDS/chronic illness wouldn’t realize it was disability rep, so it would’ve been nice if it was more explicit. There were some threads that would’ve been really worth exploring, but everything was spread too thin. I’d definitely watch a movie version though.
