So lyrical and serene, full of wonders and... mirage. :)
Also... where is the FANART? I need that in my life, for reals.

I have to say, I was not expecting a whole lot from this. But once I hit about 50 pages in, I couldn't put it down. I had to force myself to go to sleep at one point! The main character is super annoying, but not unrealistic as a seventeen year old. And the romance is my favorite trope 😄

Review may be higher because I just needed to read a reliable book from a genre I like and this was just that. It was a bit predictable but good characters that have space for change and to build on for book #2

I'm still not sure how I feel about this book.

Sylvie is an interesting character because she is so entitled and naive and irritating but there is something very realistic about as a character.

I feel as it her legacy was a bit of underused. I expected detailed illusions being a part of the story but it plays very little relevance.

I really liked Sunder as a character. As cruel as he seemed at time, Sylvie really did need to be put in her place by someone.

It's been a while since a book made me as angry as this one did. In terms of plot, it's pretty run-of-the-mill for fantasy, with fairly one-dimensional side characters and an unlikable main character. But the thing that dropped this from three stars to one has to be hidden behind a spoiler tag.
SpoilerThe only two developed gay characters in the story die. Their deaths serve no purpose other than shock value and to up the stakes for the straight main character.
I almost didn't finish this book, and it's not one I'll be keeping on my shelves.

This book was so beautifully written and there were so many magical descriptions. The plot was quite as I expected but really liked how it unfolded! Sequel please?

I hated the main character until about the last 10% of the book.
I LOVED the book overall. The character building, the details, the world and magic and wonder was great- but I could not stand Sylvie/Mirage. I think the last half of the book was super fast paced compared to the first half which was fun, and although some parts were pretty standard and predictable in most YA fantasy novels out now- there were characters that were fresh, and a few surprises down the line. Overall, I’d say this borders a 3.5-4 star rating, but I gave it a 4 and I am looking foreword to its sequel.

I throughly enjoyed reading this book. I loved the characters, the French influences, the prose/writing style and I can’t wait to start the next one!!!
