2.5 stars: I thought some of the storytelling choices were really compelling, especially the creativity with perspectives (for example, the chapter from the Herpeta's, aka Medusa's snakes, POV was my favorite). From that angle, Haynes does well approaching the tapestry that is mythology and the many minor slights and domino effects across the lands and seas that can lead to full-blown wars. However, the book didn't land with me overall—it is very valid as its own telling of the myths, but it's not a version that's particular compelling to me. Where the humor lands sometimes, it mostly felt overdone and flattened aspects of the stories where there could be complexity. Again, a valid version that also does well reflecting the modern movement to reclaim Medusa as a survivor rather than monster; there are versions I've encountered that were deeper and more impactful to me, though.

Very interesting retelling of Medusa and her sisters. Thought it was very well done and also surprisingly funny at times. One of the few books I’ve really liked in which I’ve found most of the characters completely unlikeable. I do wish there was more of Medusa’s story. The interwoven stories took a little bit away from her. I don’t usually like constant change in POV but author actually did it quite well. Highly recommend this one.
