Sebastian Flynn, the man that you are. Was I stressed reading this book? Very. Did I cry? Very much so. Of the 70 books I have read so far this year, this might be my favorite.

Every time you do this to me when I read one of your books you make me fall in love with characters and then you kill them. I don't like you. I'm lying. I love you. This book broke my heart, made me laugh, made me cry and even so incredibly mad.
Like all your books it was so beautifully written. I can't wait for book two as always. You sucked me right in.

This book swept me away faster than a pirate ship on the run. Mysterious Fathoms Below is an addictive blend of high-stakes adventure, aristocratic drama, found family dynamics, and swoony slow-burn romance. Think Bridgerton meets Pirates of the Caribbean with a magical twist—and yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
From mysterious sea creatures to tense enemies-to-lovers chemistry, this story kept me turning pages late into the night. Rose, a heroine born into privilege but driven by courage, and Flynn, the brooding pirate captain, create sparks that leap off the page. Their journey—emotional, electric, and full of banter—was just as gripping as the treasure hunts and dangerous plots.
The crew’s found family vibe brought heart and humor, balancing out the peril and tension. And while it’s not heavy on spice, the tension is thick enough to cut with a dagger. Slow burn fans, you’ll eat this up.
That cliffhanger? I’m not okay. But I’m so ready for more.

'Mysterious Fathoms Below: Vow of Vengeance Book One' by J. A. Good is book one from a new to me author. Rose Bailey lives and idyllic life as the daughter of a wealthy shipping merchant, if she had to point out one negative from her life it would be her disastrous failed engagement with her father's business partners son. But after the engagement ended he had left and she was set to be a happy spinster with as many cats as she could keep.
Then her father's business partner dies and with him all documentation of her father's interest in the company disappears right as her ex-fiance returns. With him he brings an ultimatum, see her family ruined or marry him. Rose isn't one to be back into a corner and so she devises a risky plan involving a long sunken treasure and a notorious Captain of a pirate ship. Sea wraiths and krakens aren't the only thing Rose needs to be worried about with this plan.

This was so fast paced. There was never a slow moment and I found myself either loving Rose or laughing in disbelief at her. The beginning really hooked me, the feel of the book the moods it gave off just felt right and was compelling, for the first 70% I wanted to keep reading, I didnt want life to intrude. Honestly I think I could have just read this from the treasure hunting side and still enjoyed it or even lost plot and had more romance and I still would have enjoyed it both sides are really well done. Rose was wonderful that she was a very independent woman for her time, which doesnt normally have independent woman and she wasn't made to suddenly be good at anything that wouldn't have been believable. When she's given a gun she's not suddenly a perfect marksmen and hitting all her targets, nor is she a fainting daisy, she tries her best to hold her own. She felt very real and relatable.
I like slow burns, and the romance was good in this book. Other than the moment where she screams out I'm not a virgin so that she can't be sacrificed I think I would have preferred it if she and Bash didnt have history. That part was not annoying but I guess just not a favourite part for me. I would have preferred they have the tension of the unknown and being unsure. I'm also not a fan of second chance romances so maybe that influenced me there.
Overall I really liked this and will definitely read more from this author.

This book wrecked me in such a great way. It's Bridgerton meets Pirates and it's everything you didn't know you were missing.
Our FMC, Rose, is a young woman who is just trying to save her family by concocting a plan that involves pirates and a perilous journey. Our MMC, Flynn, is the captain of the pirate ship that Rose chooses for this journey of hers.
Rose struggles with her ADHD and has been in a toxic relationship that has shaped the way she thinks of herself. She makes MANY rash decisions throughout this book and us readers have no choice but to whiteknuckle it until the end with her. I loved watching Rose's character grow through the story. While Flynn plays a big part of her character growth, so does many of the other wonderful characters we meet throughout the story.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll curse some characters. You'll feel anxious, you'll feel ecstatic, you'll feel heartbreak. By the end, you will feel like you've spent hours on a pirate ship at sea in a storm, but you'll still want more.
