This was so good.
The mythology aspects were so well done and interestingly woven with 'true' myth and own twists. I also really like that this series seems to be one book for one couple, so we will see even more of the world told from different perspectives.
All in all, very well done.

This book was such a wonderful surprise! It was a little slow at first but man once you hit about the 30% mark it takes off like a rocket! The one slightly negative thing I have to comment on is that this book does not do a lot of explaining so you almost feel like you’re missing something, how do the Mages come to be and why are they just a normal part of society? I would have loved for that have been explained since this is the first book in the series and would have helped the world building a bit more. Another thing is if you don’t know anything about Greek mythology this book would have been so confusing for you, I’m lucky that I love reading Greek Mythology based PNR or I would have been lost in the sauce. All in all I really liked this book and can’t wait to read the next one, it sounds so intriguing.
Magic and secrets abound
In Prince of Death by Sam Burns and WM Fawkes, Greek gods and goddesses feature with the introduction of a new one, Lysandros, but the best thing in my opinion is we get the stories from their perspectives. I found the new versions creative and unique. Remind me never to piss off Hades or his daughters. Lysandros has a very special skill; however, a frightening and horrible event occurred in his past and he mistrusts humans and most gods. Theo is talented as well but doesn’t realize exactly how powerful he is. For a mortal, he's both very brave and accepting of the extraordinary.
It's lust at first sight but they're hesitant to act as their worlds are very different. Their chemistry is amazing and must say, there are many benefits to being with a god. I really love how they're so, so sweet together and how they tease each other, but the trust they give each other is phenomenal. It was beautiful watching them fall in love. "Keeping you forever." This line, happy sighs.
Hermes annoyed me as I didn’t like his attitude. Theo’s hidden agenda for visiting the underworld was a point of contention, but I like that Lysandros’ first instinct is to protect Theo. BTW, Theo makes an excellent apology and is pretty protective of Lysandros in his own right. Wilder is a jerk but I loved how Lysandros gave Theo a new perspective on his magic.
I really enjoyed all the pop culture references and Zeus is super bad about choosing passwords. I enjoyed the scene in Zeus' apartment on behalf of Lysandros, he's fierce and his power is very cool. Quite the twist towards the end of the book and the authors were very clever in how they hid the clues. I enjoyed the mystery of who was behind all the trouble in the world and thought the scene with Persephone and Theo was beautiful. All in all it was an action-packed magical adventure.

I have a huge love for greek mythology so it was rather inevitable that i would love this book! Its takes inspiration from original tales and characters, brings them all to life fitting to their history but with their own twist on them all and i enjoyed every moment.
Lysandros is original and i fell in love with him straight away, he fit into the mythology perfectly and i adored him. Getting to learn his history was so bittersweet and yet so fitting to tragedy of mythology, i found fascinating and Valeria too was so well done.
The different areas of the underworld such as Elysium, then the scenes with Prometheus and eagle... Just so incredible to read.
I will admit the romance felt rather light and insta, yet Theo and Lysandros have amazing chemistry and steamy scenes just wow... I do wish had been more of them actually getting to know each other outside of their attraction, however i loved them both as individual characters and povs so i couldn't help but adore their romance too. They both deserve so much love forever!
Oh of course Theo was my favorite though, he just stole my heart from his first scene and i adored his view of the world. His search for knowledge and discovery, his abilities were rather cool too and just i found him so cute. I would so be him if i suddenly stumbled upon gods and goddesses, so i really enjoyed his perspective.
Also must mention the various gods and goddesses throughout were entertaining, i love Hades and Persephone so was great to see them. But theres so many that i enjoy such as Charon and Artemis, just i could be here forever listing all the interactions i adored.
The sisters Macaria and Melinoe especially shined for me, as i'd only known their status in passing so i liked the exploration into them and their abilities. Along with their protectiveness of their brother was great.
Overall an entertaining read, that was filled with one of my favorite themes so how could i not love it! The ending is so beautiful and fitting look to the future for everyone xx
Im really looking forward to reading the next one too, as it has vampire mc. This series seems to have just found all my weaknesses, hits all the spots for me xx

So first of all I'm a sucker for Greek mythology and this book wasn't even on my radar. I was really pleasantly surprised with this one. It was a fun twist on magic and the Greek gods. Theo and Lysandros were sweet together. I was amused by how unfazed Theo was as a mage by everything that was happening. He's committed to doing the right thing even while dealing with the pain of losing his mother. His magic may not be an active easily demonstrated talent, but he's proud of his talent and the work he does as a teacher.
When a mysterious magic book shows Theo the way to the underworld all he was really looking for was another chance to see him mother. But, meeting Lysandros is more than he ever expected. Getting pulled into the world of the gods and their crazy shenanigans throws his world for a loop and as the threat to the world grows with a storm brewing out of control Theo may be the only one who can stop it all. Lysandros' is drawn to Theo like no one he's met in centuries. He's shunned any sort of connection with people as they trip his anxiety. But Theo makes him want to come out of his shell.
This was sweet with just enough adventure in it to keep things interesting. I liked the depictions of each of the gods we meet in this story. Knowing my mythology just made this one more enjoyable.

4.5* Brilliant Fantasy.
I have always enjoyed stories about Greek Gods and this is a really good one as it concentrates on the Underworld being an integral part of the world and not lesser or where the villains are, there is quite a bit of artistic interpretation as Hades and Persephone in legend don’t have a son one of our MC’s Lysandros who has the gift to give or take life but is haunted by that power. The mortal that the Gods draw into their games and manipulations is Professor Theodore (Theo) Ward who seems at first as unassuming but over the course of the book discovers and accepts his worth as he can absorb magic - won’t say more about the storyline in fear of saying too much as I could gush about this book.
I really loved the way that the characters were built to show all different sides to their personalities, how special they are -Theo and Lysandros loved these two, how kind and levelheaded they can be -Hades, how conniving and petty they are -Hermes and Hera to say a few as I said I could go on.
This is the start of what I believe will be a truly epic series, I wait in anticipation for the next instalment.

I've generally enjoyed the books I've read by this duo, but I went into this with some concerns based on reviews, and sure enough, I just couldn't get into this one. There's no world building at all to the point where there's no context, and while I love a good riff on mythology, it was clear very littler work was done here to make it all make sense. Lysandros's tragic backstory was super weird and random and told in such an odd and confusing way I was left scratching my head, and I'm just... not really sure what the point of it all was. Stopped early, so maybe it gets better, but the foundation was so messy and half-assed that I had zero interest in continuing.

I really enjoyed this book. I mean, I love Greek mythology to begin with, so this book hit the spot just right. I definitely found a series I look forward to reading and two authors I'd love to read more from.

I'm always willing to try this writing duo's work, even though sometimes things don't work out. I LOVE reading stories with Greek mythology so I knew I absolutely had to give this one a shot. Overall, it was...okay. For it's length, I don't feel like we actually got much of a story.
I liked Theo & Lysandros. The steamy scenes were pretty good, but beyond that, I don't feel like they actually got to spend that much time together. Certainly not enough for how strongly they fell into ILYs and immortal life. I really enjoyed the world building, the way the gods were used in this story, but I think the set up is the reason it was hard to connect to our two MCs. There were SO many characters being introduced that they just didn't have enough space to be given the time they needed to really grab me.
The external plot point, with the lightning bolt and vengeful gods, also felt really random. Almost like the authors were like, hey we need more of a story than just introducing Greek mythology and the relationship between Theo & Lysandros. And they're right...they DID need something. But it felt rushed and kind of hard to even follow along with. Our "villain" wasn't even introduced as a character until the big event at the end. Sure, if you know your Greek mythology this character isn't new or anything, but still.
Overall, I liked the idea. The execution definitely could have been better. Maybe I'll try more of the series to see if it gets better.
