I had to read this for my world lit class, and it's one of the few things I've enjoyed so far. The plot was really complicated, and of course it's a prime example of "Sophoclean Irony". To me, the irony lies with the fact that if the oracles had never said anything, nothing would've happened. But then there wouldn't have been a play I suppose. Oedipus' revelation is rather shocking, but the whole time you're reading it you're thinking "no...why...no!" So it's not really a surpise.
